Encounter the cosmos in a whole new way with this enhanced observing opportunity.
 
Enjoy an evening of viewing through the 100-inch telescope, along with artist talks and a tour of the exhibition Of Sea and Sky, a two-person exhibition of work examining human-to-nature relationships by artists Rebeca Méndez and Stephen Nowlin.
 
 
The exhibition includes an immersive video work by Méndez projected within the dome and large-scale print works by Nowlin displayed along sections of the dome floor encircling the massive telescope. The 100-inch telescope is the instrument with which astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered our place in the expanding universe and advanced our comprehension. 
 
Of Sea and Sky connects themes of truth-seeking, space cosmology and Earth ecology, as well as sensitivities to the diverse histories of human and animal knowledge-gathering and relations.
 
  Stephen Nowlin’s Chapel Studio practice probes astronomy, cosmology, and ontological perspectives emerging from the pairing of contemporary art and science. The Studio borrows its name from structures of meditation and reverence but has nothing to do with churches or religion, or fictions of the non-existent supernatural. It’s a place to ponder and make, as science shapes our knowledge and embrace of the natural universe.
 
 
  Rebeca Méndez is an interdisciplinary artist examining reciprocal relationships and environmental justice in a multi-species world amid climate change, mass extinction, and a ravaging extractivist society, and her research-based works manifest as immersive video and sound installations, film, and performance.
