Dr Jessie Christiansen is a research scientist at the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute at Caltech/IPAC, where she searches for, characterizes, and catalogs planets orbiting other stars. She is the lead scientist for the NASA Exoplanet Archive and has worked on the NASA Kepler, K2, and now TESS missions to characterize the demographics of exoplanets, and to find and study the nearest planetary systems to Earth – systems that will be perfect for further study with NASA’s next flagship mission, the Habitable Worlds Observatory.

Evening Schedule:

  • The night begins at 5:30 PM with a talk given by our featured speaker.
  • Immediately after the talk, there will be time to picnic at tables provided outdoors while the sky darkens for telescope viewing.  Bring your own food, or order dinner from the food truck that will be available.
  • Once it is dark, attendees can view the night sky until 11:30 PM through both the 60- and 100-inch telescopes (you can leave at any point in the evening).
  • The Los Angeles Astronomical Society will have its telescopes set up around the grounds for viewing different night sky objects.
