Description

Sound Experience in the 100-inch Dome at 6 PM
"Within Sound: The Acoustic Sculptures of Michael Brewster"
Within the 100-inch Dome, visitors will physically engage with six of Brewster's works as they move throughout the space and also learn about Brewster's pragmatic approach to his art that encompassed sound, engineering, and architecture.
"Within Sound" immerses visitors in the sonic environments of this pioneering sound artist in this retrospective installation of Brewster's work. These works capture his artistic evolution over four decades and demonstrate the evolving acoustic complexities Brewster constructed as he developed his works from a single sound wave to multi-soundwave installations.
Each work will be preceded by a brief explanation of the artist's evolving approach to acoustic art during his career.
Attendance will be limited to allow for movement among the sound waves.
Lecture in the Auditorium at 4:15 PM
"Within Sound" The Acoustic Sculptures of Michael Brewster by Homer Charles Arnold
Attendees of both the 3 PM and 6 PM are invited to attend the complimentary 4:15 PM talk. This talk will cover the career of the sound artist Michael Brewster. Brewster realized early on he could transform the natural phenomena of sound into art with immersive sound fields that we explore with our bodies and ears as we physically move through them. Learn about his artistic journey and how he invented various technologies and architectural spaces to create his works.
Reception
After the lecture and before the 6 PM show, a reception with the curators will be held outside the 100-inch Dome. Examples of Brewster's experiments with sound, mechanical drawings for his works, and his art will be on display in the Gallery of the 100-inch Dome.
