Description
From 9:00 am to 2:30 pm, Mount Wilson Observatory will conduct a special, Behind-the-Scenes, Engineering Tour of our two large telescopes, concentrating on the mechanical, optical, and electrical details of these amazing historic instruments, with full demonstrations of their motion controls. The engineering that went into the 60-inch and 100-inch telescopes, both the biggest in the world for a period of time, represented the cutting edge of technology when they opened in 1908 and 1917 respectively. Come see the inner workings of the most productive observatory in history!
Specifics:
- Tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE unless we cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.
- The tour is limited to 10 people.
- The minimum age is 12 years old.
- Tour fees must be paid in advance and are not reserved until paid.
- No Forest Service Pass is required.
- We will run rain or shine.
- Gates open at 8:30 a.m. Arrive and check in at the upper parking lot by 9:00 a.m. Tour begins at 9:20 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.
- Attendees must be FULLY VACCINATED against Covid-19.
- In accordance with the July 15, 2021 Los Angeles County Health Officer Order, masks are required in all indoor areas of the observatory grounds.
